Teaching opportunities are available in all non-English speaking countries around the world, although your main teaching options are in countries throughout Asia, South America and Europe, although the latter usually requires an EU passport. However, before you head overseas to teach English it’s highly recommended that you do some TEFL training. With a TEFL qualification on your CV you’ll be able to secure a better teaching position, get much improved benefits (salary, bonuses, hours etc) and just as importantly, know what you’re doing in the classroom.

The amount of study needed (measured in hours) varies from country to country, but generally you’ll need at least 120 hours to give yourself the best chance of getting a good job in a competitive market such as Asia or Europe. In less competitive markets such as South America you may be able to get by on as little as 20 hours of in-class training, but as a rule of thumb, the more you learn the more you can earn.
