FAQs

Eligibility:

GoBus Travellers are usually in their 18-30's but people of all ages are welcome provided you have a sense of adventure and fun!

Visas:

All Australian's and New Zealanders need a visa for Egypt - this can be obtained on arrival for $25USD or before departure for $60 AUD single entry or $85 AUD for multiple entry - for more info check out www.egypt.org.au

Before You Go:

How do I get there?

Just book your flights into Cairo and we'll pick you up from the airport and take care of the rest!

How do I book my Gobus Pass?

Just buy your pass and you're away - no need to pre-book the first sector before heading off to Egypt, just book your sector with us locally.

What should I bring?

Egypt is a year round destination - between May - September it stays very hot so it shorts and tees all the way. During the Northern Hemisphere winter the temperature does drop at night - particularly in the Sinai - so take a few fleeces and long pants! But remember to respect the local Muslim culture - which means, ladies, no skimpy vest tops and shorts; pack those comfortable favourite shoes as there's lots of walking involved… Sleeping Bags are recommended for the felucca and train journeys. Pack all your belongings in a rucksack (so much easier for carrying and storage).

How much money do I need?

Entrance fees will be approximately $100AUD - but remember if you are carrying a student card you get to pay half price for all entrance fees. Budget for approximately $50 for a daily allowance that will cover food and drinks and a few small souvenirs. But remember if you are a shopper - and you can buy EVERYTHING in Egypt - then budget for a little more!

Tipping:

Egypt is a big tipping nation and the rule is 'little and often'!!! Keep a stash of Egyptian £2-5 handy - and remember to tip your tour leader if undertaking one of our tours, and also your felucca captain.

Money, Money, Money…

bring with you cash in USD (as this is easy to exchange) along with some Egyptian Pounds. ATM's are available in the larger towns, but are not on every street corner so budget your cash accordingly. Credit cards can be used for larger purchases in Cairo.

Do I need vaccinations?

Recommended vaccinations are Hepatitis A, Typhoid, Tetanus, Polio, Meningitis - always speak to a professional before you go. Diarrhoea is a common occurrence amongst travellers in foreign countries and Egypt is no exception - so do take some anti-diarrhoea tablets.

I am a single traveller…

If you are travelling alone - no problem- we will automatically room you with fellow traveller of the same sex - an instant buddy!

What are GoBuses like?

All our vehicles are late model coaches seating between 12-48 people. All have A/C, a stereo (even for your 80's pop) and an esky to keep those drinks chilled. Larger Buses have a fridge and WC.

On The Go

What happens when I arrive in Cairo?

On either passes or tours, as long as you have provided us with your departure flight details, we'll be at the airport to pick you up and drop you off in central Cairo for your Free night accommodation (Passes only)

Can I change my travel plans?

No Worries! You can change your sectors and dates as often as you want for FREE! But remember to book your sector with our local offices 48 hours in advance to guarantee your seat. But GoBus passes are NOT transferable - you cannot sell it on - it's yours and yours only!!!!!!

Can you help me book a hotel or tour once I am in Egypt?

Sure - there are Reps on board who can help you book any extras such as tours or accommodation and can also advise on the best place to get a beer and enjoy some Felafel and Baba Ghanoug!

How long can I stay at each stop?

That's up to you - as long as you don't exceed the three-month validity of the pass - if you fall in love with Luxor then you can stay for as long as you like! Just pick you type of pass and you get to decide the rest!

Safety and security

We only use local guides and reps on our tours and passes - they know the places to go and the places to avoid. On long journeys we travel in Police Conveys and between Luxor and Dahab you'll experience several passport checks - but don't worry our reps take care of the official stuff! Tourism is a massive industry in Egypt, so safety of visitors is the priority.
